How Workbranch works

Workbranch is an AI chat workspace that borrows the best ideas from email. Here's a tour of how it's put together, from the inbox where your chats live to the threads, highlights and due dates that turn answers into finished work.

The idea in one sentence: every AI conversation in Workbranch behaves like an email you can file, flag, reply to point by point and mark as done, so your AI work moves forward instead of piling up.

1. The inbox: where every chat lives

Open Workbranch and you'll see something familiar: a list of conversations grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, then dates), with the newest at the top. Each row shows the chat's title, its folder, any due date and how many threads are still open.

Above the list, quick views filter what you see:

Need to tidy up? Switch to selection mode and act on many chats at once: mark them complete, move them to a folder, set a due date or delete them.

2. Projects and folders: two levels of organization

Projects sit in the rail on the left, one per client, product, team or area of your life. Each has its own color and initial so you can switch context at a glance. Switching projects swaps the whole inbox.

Folders organize chats inside a project by the kind of work, like Sales, Dev or Support. Folders are color-coded and show as tags on every chat, so a mixed list is still easy to scan.

A pattern that works: projects for who or what the work is for, folders for what kind of work it is.

3. A chat that's built for action

Ask a question and the AI answers as you'd expect. Workbranch then treats each point in the answer as a unit of work you can act on. Next to every point you can:

When every point is ticked off, the chat counts as complete. You can also mark the whole chat complete or reopen it from the header.

4. Branching threads: follow up without losing your place

In a normal AI chat, asking a follow-up about point 3 pushes points 4 to 7 out of view, and the conversation drifts. Workbranch threads work like replying to a single line of an email:

  1. Open a thread on the point you want to explore. It opens in a side panel, with the point quoted at the top.
  2. Ask your follow-up. The AI answers in the thread, with the context of the original chat.
  3. Resolve it when you have your answer. The point shows how many messages its thread has, and the inbox shows how many threads are still open.

The main conversation stays exactly as it was: clean, readable and easy to work through.

5. Highlights: keep the lines that matter

Select any text in an answer and pick a highlight color: green, yellow, blue, pink or purple. Many people give the colors a meaning, such as yellow for "check this", green for "approved" and pink for "risk". Highlights are searchable, so the one command, quote or idea you need is always findable.

6. Flags, due dates, calendar and reminders

Every chat can carry a due date: today, tomorrow, this week, next week or a specific day. Flagged chats show their date in the inbox, overdue ones stand out, and everything appears on a calendar view. Reminders collect what's due today or overdue, with a badge so nothing slips quietly.

7. Search everything

Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) to search across chats and highlights in your workspace. Good chat titles and highlights make search even sharper.

8. Bring your existing AI chats

You don't have to start from scratch. Share a conversation from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to get a share link, paste the link into Workbranch, and the conversation is imported, ready to file, flag and work through. See how to share a chat in each app.

9. The AI under the hood

Workbranch runs on Google Gemini today. A model picker is coming Soon so you can choose between Google, OpenAI and Anthropic models for each chat, and use the right model for the job without changing tools.

10. Teams Soon

Teams will let you share projects and threads with colleagues and track progress together. Until then, Workbranch is built for individuals who run a lot of AI work.
