How to share a ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini chat

All three assistants can turn a conversation into a link. Here's how to create one in each, what the person you send it to can see, how to delete links later, and how to import a shared chat into Workbranch.

Quick version: open the chat and use its Share option to create a public link, then copy it. Anyone with the link can read a snapshot of the conversation, so check it for private information first, and delete links you no longer need.

Before you share: a share link works like a public web page. Anyone who gets it can read the chat, and some providers let viewers continue the conversation in their own account. Remove names, emails, passwords, API keys, customer data and anything confidential first.

How to share a ChatGPT chat

Open the conversation you want to share.
Click Share at the top right of the chat. You can also share from the chat's menu in the sidebar.
Create and copy the link. The link shows the conversation up to this point.

To delete it later: go to Settings → Data controls → Shared links → Manage and remove the link. Your original chat stays in your history. Source: OpenAI help: data controls in ChatGPT.

How to share a Claude chat

Open the conversation in Claude.
Click Share at the top of the chat and create a public link.
Copy the link. It captures a snapshot of the chat as it is now.

To delete it later: go to Settings → Privacy → Shared chats → Manage and unshare it, or set the chat back to private from its Share menu. If you share the same chat again later, the new link includes everything added since, so review it first.

How to share a Gemini chat

Open the conversation at gemini.google.com or in the Gemini app.
Choose Share and create a public link.
Copy the link. The shared page shows the chat as it was when you created the link and doesn't include your name.

To delete it later: on gemini.google.com, open Settings → Your public links and delete the link. Deleting the link is the way to revoke access. Turning off Gemini activity doesn't remove existing links. Work and school accounts may have sharing turned off by their admin. Source: Google help: share your Gemini chats.

What the person you share with can see

A snapshot: the conversation as it was when you created the link. Later messages aren't included unless you share again.
Your messages and the AI's answers. Uploaded files and images may or may not be included, depending on the provider.
Usually not your account details, though some providers show a name if you choose to.

Keep shared chats safe

Share only what you'd be comfortable seeing on a public website.
Never share chats containing passwords, API keys or customer data. If you did, delete the link and change those credentials.
Review your list of shared links every few months and delete old ones.
Remember that deleting a link stops new visitors, but can't undo copies someone already made.

Import a shared chat into Workbranch

Can anyone see my shared AI chat?

Anyone who has the link can open it, even if you didn't send it to them directly. Treat a share link like a public web page and don't share chats that contain private or sensitive information.

Does a shared link update when I continue the chat?

Generally no. Share links show a snapshot of the conversation. Messages you add later don't appear unless you share it again, which creates a new snapshot.

How do I delete a shared chat link?

ChatGPT: Settings → Data controls → Shared links → Manage. Claude: Settings → Privacy → Shared chats → Manage. Gemini: Settings → Your public links. Deleting the link doesn't delete your original chat.

Can shared chats show up in Google?

They can if a link is posted publicly somewhere. Some providers have added measures to prevent indexing, but the safest approach is to never share sensitive content and to delete links you no longer need.
