GuideHow to see and delete your ChatGPT shared links
Every time you share a ChatGPT chat, a public link stays alive until you remove it. This guide shows where ChatGPT lists those links, how to delete one or all of them, and what deleting does and doesn't undo.
Quick answer: go to Settings → Data controls and select Manage next to Shared links. Delete a single link from that list, or open More actions and choose Delete all shared links. Deleting stops the link from working, but it doesn't touch your own chat or copies other people already saved.
Steps checked against OpenAI's help pages on 30 October 2026. Menu names can move slightly between the web, desktop and mobile apps, so treat the wording below as accurate as of October 2026.
Find all your shared links
ChatGPT keeps one list of everything you've shared, so you don't need to hunt through old chats.
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings.
- Select Data controls.
- Next to Shared links, select Manage.
The list shows both shared conversations and shared scheduled tasks. It's a good place to review now and then, because links don't expire on their own: a link you sent a year ago still works today unless you removed it.
Delete one link or all of them
- Open the shared-link list as described above.
- To remove a single link, select Delete shared link on that row.
- To remove everything at once, open More actions and select Delete all shared links.
For a shared scheduled task there's a second route: open the original task's Share task dialog, select the trash can icon next to the link, then confirm with Delete share.
Want to change what a link shows rather than kill it? For a chat in a personal account, open the conversation, select Share and choose Update link. The link is a snapshot, so messages you add later only appear after you update it.
What people with the link still see
This is the part most people get wrong, so it's worth being precise:
- After you delete a link, nobody can open it anymore. Your original conversation stays in your history untouched.
- Copies already made stay. If someone opened your link and continued the chat, ChatGPT created a separate private conversation in their account. Deleting your link doesn't remove it. The same goes for a shared task someone already scheduled.
- Before you delete it, anyone holding a personal-account link can view what it contained when it was created or last updated. Links can also be forwarded, so treat them as public.
- Workspace links behave differently. A link made in a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace (or ChatGPT for Healthcare) only opens for eligible members of that workspace, and it can include messages added after you shared it.
Other ways a link disappears
| What you do | What happens to the link |
|---|---|
| Delete the conversation | Its shared link is removed too. |
| Lock the chat | The existing link keeps working with its old content; new messages aren't added. Delete it separately. |
| Delete the original scheduled task | Its shared task link is removed. |
| Delete a chat that has a scheduled task | The chat link goes, but the task's share link stays until you delete it. |
| Delete your account | Shared conversation links are deleted. Remove shared task links yourself first. |
Good to know
- Names: shared chats are anonymous by default, though some older sharing experiences could show the creator's name. Anything you typed in the chat, including names and uploaded files or images, can be visible.
- Search engines: shared pages aren't meant to be indexed, but that doesn't make them private.
- Spotting real links: shared chats start with
https://chatgpt.com/share/and shared tasks withhttps://chatgpt.com/s/. - Your data export lists shared conversations in a file called
shared_conversations.json, with each link's ID, chat ID and title. Shared task links aren't included. - Admins: in Enterprise and Edu, admins can turn sharing off for the whole workspace under Workspace settings → Permissions & roles. Business doesn't offer the same switch.
If it doesn't work
- The list is empty but you know you shared something: check you're signed in to the same account or workspace you shared from.
- Someone can still read the chat after you deleted the link: they most likely saved their own copy by continuing it. That copy lives in their account and you can't remove it.
- You can't create a new link for a chat: if the chat is locked, it has to be permanently unlocked before a new link can be made.
- A new link shows a loading screen: fresh links can take a moment to become available. Wait briefly and reload.

Keep the useful part before you delete
People often share a chat just to hand over its conclusions. If that's why you shared it, run the share link through the free chat organizer on workbranch.ai first. It pulls out the tasks, decisions and open questions by topic, so you can keep those and then delete the public link.

Frequently asked questions
Can I make a shared link expire automatically?
No. ChatGPT links have no expiry setting, so the only way to end access is to delete the link yourself when it's no longer needed.
Can I limit a link to certain people?
Not person by person. A link from a personal account opens for anyone who has it. A link from a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace only opens for members of that workspace.
Does turning off model training remove my links?
No. Changing the Improve the model for everyone setting leaves existing shared links in place and doesn't change who can open them.
