GuideHow to schedule actions in Gemini
Gemini can send you a response on a schedule, such as a morning summary or a Friday wrap-up, without you asking each time. Here's how to create one, keep it under control and check whether your account can use it.
Quick answer: on gemini.google.com, type a prompt that says what you want and when and how often, for example "Every weekday at 7am, summarize the top tech news", and submit it. Gemini replies with a summary of the schedule. To edit, pause, resume or delete it later, open Scheduled in the sidebar. You can have up to 10 active schedules, and Keep Activity must be on.
These steps were checked against Google's Gemini Apps Help on 30 October 2026. Google now calls the feature schedules (it was widely known as scheduled actions), and it's rolling out gradually, so labels and availability may change.
Before you start: who can use it
- Account: a personal Google Account, or a work or school account on a Google Workspace edition that includes it. Google is rolling it out to personal accounts gradually, so it may not show up for you yet.
- Keep Activity on: schedules don't work when Keep Activity is turned off. If you switched it off earlier, see how Gemini Apps Activity works before turning it back on.
- Connected apps: if a schedule should use another app, such as Gmail or Calendar from Google Workspace, that app has to be connected to Gemini first.
Step 1: Create a schedule
- Go to gemini.google.com and sign in.
- In the text box, write what you want Gemini to do, and include when and how often it should run. For example: "Every Monday at 8am, give me a short summary of the week's main AI news" or "Tomorrow at 6pm, remind me of three ideas for dinner".
- Click Submit.
- Read Gemini's reply. It sums up the schedule it created, so check the day, time and frequency are what you meant. If not, tell Gemini in the same chat what to change.
Tip: be specific about the time and the repeat ("every weekday", "on the first of each month"). A vague prompt like "send me news regularly" leaves Gemini to guess.
Step 2: Edit a schedule from its chat
Each schedule lives in the chat where you created it. To change it there:
- Open the chat that holds the schedule.
- Click More (the three-dot icon) and choose Edit, or simply ask Gemini in the chat to change it, for example "move this to 9am".
- The change applies to future runs, not ones already delivered.
Step 3: Manage everything on the Scheduled page
Click Scheduled in the sidebar to see all your schedules in one list. In the mobile app, you'll find the Scheduled page in the menu.
- Pause or resume: hover over the schedule, click More, then Pause or Resume. A paused schedule does nothing until you resume it.
- Edit: click the schedule, change the details in the form and click Save. If you'd rather describe the change in words, click Go to chat and ask Gemini.
- Delete: hover over the schedule, click More, then Delete.
How you're told a response is ready
- On the web: the chat with the schedule shows as unread under All in the sidebar, and it's marked on the Scheduled page.
- On a phone: the Gemini app sends a notification. Depending on your device settings it can appear on the lock screen.
- To turn these alerts on or off, use your phone's notification settings for the Gemini app.
Good to know
- Limit: up to 10 active schedules at a time. Pause or delete one to make room for a new one.
- Timing: responses are prepared within the hour before delivery, which is why live data may lag a little.
- Location: a location-based schedule (weather, local events) keeps using the place where you set it up until you change it.
- Inactivity: Google may switch off a schedule you haven't been engaging with. If responses stop arriving, check the Scheduled page.
If it doesn't work
- Gemini answers right away instead of scheduling: the feature may not have reached your account yet, or Keep Activity is off. Check Keep Activity first, and if it's on, try again later as the rollout continues.
- No Scheduled item in the sidebar: same cause. On a work or school account, ask your admin whether your Workspace edition includes it.
- A schedule that reads your email or calendar fails: connect the app it needs in Gemini, then check the next scheduled response.
- You can't add another schedule: you've probably reached 10 active ones. Pause or delete one on the Scheduled page.
If you also use ChatGPT, it has a similar feature with its own limits: see how to schedule tasks in ChatGPT.
Keeping track of what the summaries turn up
A daily briefing often surfaces things to act on, and they get lost in a growing pile of chats. In Workbranch you can keep those follow-ups in a project as a point-by-point checklist, with flags, due dates and reminders, so a Monday summary turns into work you actually finish.

Frequently asked questions
Is a scheduled response always up to the minute?
No. Gemini prepares each response during the hour before it's due, so fast-moving information like share prices can be out of date by the time you read it. Google suggests schedules suit daily summaries and wrap-ups best.
Can a schedule follow me when I travel?
Not automatically. If a schedule depends on location, Gemini keeps using the place where you created it. Edit the schedule to name a different location, or create a new one.
Why did my schedule stop on its own?
Google may switch a schedule off after a period of inactivity. Open the Scheduled page, find it and resume it.
